INTRODUCTION

INTRO
Vault 113

You wake feeling groggy. You have the distinct sense of oversleeping, even if you may not recall ever going to bed in the first place. And this bed? Definitely not yours, no matter how comfortable it may be. And you'd probably not go to sleep in your street clothes*, right? Well, maybe it's time to smooth out your bedhead and get exploring!

(*or whatever else you were wearing at the last moment you remember)

The first thing you'll notice is the complete absence of windows - are you underground? Though you'll encounter quite a few closed doors, there are some rooms for you to look through and maybe catch your breath in. Maybe it's time for a slushie in the dining room? Impatience won't get you anywhere!

And what's better than a sweet drink to bring strangers together? After all, you're not the only one who's crawled out of bed a little late today. Mingle and don't worry too hard about your current predicament!

((The Mastermind will introduce themselves at 7pm EST real time.))

[What a letdown!! He didn't exactly have his hopes up but still.]

I don't know, okay? Last thing I remember was messing around with some fireworks before we all turned in for the night. [A huff.] Hell if I know who'd go through the hassle of dumping me in this shithole, though.

[Although objectively speaking, this shithole was better furnished than the barracks he had been living in, but let him be pissy.]

It doesn't matter who did it, getting out is the important part. Too bad, it doesn't seem destroying a wall will do. With no windows...who knows what's out there.

Could be dirt, could be the ocean, could be a cliff.

Not like we've got the equipment to blow up the walls anyway, unless they kept a bunch of plastic explosives around here for some reason. These things seem pretty sturdy too. [He lightly knocks on the wall a couple times, as if to punctuate the point.]

But you really think they'd build something like this underwater?

Eh. I have seen what people can do when they really want to achieve something. Equipment or not, there's always a chance someone could pull it off. You have no idea what humanity can do with a few tools and misplaced confidence.

[For better or for worse. Trust her, she has seen it way more times than just once.

Erin snorts a little when he asks that question, and she just...answers, a tad resigned:]

I hope you can keep that healthy skepticism intact for the rest of your life. If you do it'll be the sign you had a sane life.

[In other words, yeah, she does think this being underwater isn't impossible. Erin has seen way too much to rule anything out -- that's the kind of canon she comes from, hah]

[And indeed, he does maintain a skeptical look as she speaks, because this is before he literally saw someone manifest from a bunch of blood!! He had a good run, really.

His expression ends up flattening out to something more indifferent by the end though, giving something of a noncommittal hum before he speaks up again.]

...The rest of my life, right.

Anyway, I told you what happened to me. So what were you doing before you woke up in this place, running around in that getup?

[A gesture at the whole... cape thing.]

[Erin inhales between her teeth. She hadn't thought of a good excuse for the get-up she had. Obviously telling the truth is out of the question. What's a good lie, though...?]

...it's a fashion statement. Don't judge me.

[......

Okay, that's the closest thing to the truth. She did choose these clothes on purpose. They just don't look very impressive on her right now]

[Just kinda makes this face for a second before he casually slings his arms behind his head and shrugs.]

If you say so. But you reeeally ought to take that cape off? Like, you look as if you just raided a random costume shop.

[The part about she looking like she raided a costume shop gets her to raise her eyebrows with faint amusement]

Spoken like someone who wouldn't be able to pull off the cape look in his entire life.

[As if to demonstrate, she does a...quite practiced movement of the cape that would look far more imposing if she was a foot and half taller, but she does begin to take the cape off]

[If nothing else, the cape swoosh does make it seem like she’s used to wearing it, although it’s not like he really has any other frame of reference either way. He shrugs again at that comment and though!!]

I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing that thing anyway. Besides, I bet it’d just get tangled up in the controls if I had to sortie.

Controls of what? You can't drop that casually and not elaborate.

[No, Erin, that's just because you're a bit nosy]

Because it's really nothing worth explaining? I'm just talking about the Juggernauts... you know, those walking pieces of junk?

[He says this a little airily, like he wasn't just talking about using said piece of junk.]

The only piece of junk I have seen these days is the robot at the diner.
