INTRODUCTION

INTRO
Vault 113

You wake feeling groggy. You have the distinct sense of oversleeping, even if you may not recall ever going to bed in the first place. And this bed? Definitely not yours, no matter how comfortable it may be. And you'd probably not go to sleep in your street clothes*, right? Well, maybe it's time to smooth out your bedhead and get exploring!

(*or whatever else you were wearing at the last moment you remember)

The first thing you'll notice is the complete absence of windows - are you underground? Though you'll encounter quite a few closed doors, there are some rooms for you to look through and maybe catch your breath in. Maybe it's time for a slushie in the dining room? Impatience won't get you anywhere!

And what's better than a sweet drink to bring strangers together? After all, you're not the only one who's crawled out of bed a little late today. Mingle and don't worry too hard about your current predicament!

((The Mastermind will introduce themselves at 7pm EST real time.))

You noticed that too, huh?

[He scratches at the stubble on his chin, frowning.]

The door seems to close too quickly for someone to slip through without getting their fingers chopped off. So maybe if we could jam the door mechanism....

How feasible do you think it would be to knock that robot waiter down and wedge the door with it?

[Surely a robot isn't going to break easily! It would keep the doors open for a whiiiiile!]

Hmmm. Worth a shot--until that robot whips out a bunch of hidden guns and starts shooting us.

[He shakes his head.]

I mean, it'll probably work, but we should make sure the bot's capabilities are limited to serving food before trying it.

Right. Any ideas on how to do that? I know nothing about machines. Motor oil and wrenches aren't my thing.

[She was a journalist, not a mechanic! Yeah, she wrote for a science magazine for quite a while, but not because she was a science aficionado!]

[Nick's face screws up as he thinks.]

Um...magnets? Like, really strong ones? It might scramble the circuitry.

Oh, finally an use for the magnets I routinely carry in my pockets.

[...no reason for the deadpan sarcasm, Erin. Still, she nods because, truthfully, Nick's idea is useful and she approves even though her immediate response almost made it sound like she didn't]

It's not a bad idea. If I see magnets anywhere it's worth a try. Even though it's a robot that doesn't mean it's too advanced or well made. We all know cutting corners is a tradition as old as time.

[Robotics isn't a field that's going to be exempt of that!]
