WEEK 3 MINGLE
The dreams are back, of course. They never left. But they’re different. In the dream, you wake up back at home at last. It’s so close now or… maybe everything else was just one great big nightmare. Your loved ones hug you tightly, and you can feel it so vividly that this has to be real. Things are going well for you, somehow. Maybe you won that fight. Maybe you found your freedom. Maybe you got that promotion. There’s something hopeful in the air as you breathe it, so so vividly. So much more vividly than the dank corners of the vault.
And then someone in your dream, a friend, an enemy, a loved one, family, they turn to you. They open their mouth, and through it, almost like a speaker, a song begins to play. Have you heard it before? You have now.
Coincidentally, they seem to freeze. Ice creeps up their skin, and if you take the chance to look around you, you’ll see it all start to crumble. It all goes up in a cloud of fire. A mushroom cloud, more specifically. Every single morning, on every single day of this week, you’ll be forced out of the real world and placed back in your body. Horrible, isn’t it?
Of course, just like the last two times, The Overseer speaks up over the intercom.
“I said at the end of the last execution that we’d have a new area prepared for you. A new week awaits you. I look forward to watching you take a stab at it.”
Poor choice of words, maybe, but the routine continues and the elevator has unlocked another stop. The third floor is now available to you.
As ever, the Overseer and her significantly more pleasant assistant are available for contact.

[Keiichi exhaled, and tucks the sword (sheathed! the sword is sheathed in its sheath!) in between his belt and his pants.]
I was just... so angry at the idea that we were going to let Nick's killer go. But getting rid of Ji-Woon was more important. He was definitely going to try and kill you, and at that moment, I chose my pride over your safety.
[He inclines his head at Sigma.]
I'm sorry. I'm glad everyone else didn't think like I did.

sigma’s expression doesn’t change in the slightest as keiichi apologizes. there’s no surprise or anger nor relief; only a gentle cant of his head. ]
It’s fine. Don’t worry about it. You were trying to do the right thing.
[ sigma, on the other hand, doesn’t have those same values. what’s right and what’s wrong… he doesn’t know. all he knows is what’s in front of him and what he wants to do. ]
If he had survived and tried to kill me, I would have fought back and taken him down with me. [ in part to avenge louis, another to get rid of him for his involvement in ruby’s murder. ] But that would’ve been my problem, not yours. Don’t feel bad about it.

Thanks, but I seriously don't want to think like that. We're in this together, you know?
[Even though he already carved out a little niche of this is what I am not willing to lose with the declaration of the club.]
At least, we should be. So, I don't really feel like hardening my heart to your pain, even in the hypothetical. If you got hurt, I'd get pissed and try to do something about it.

[ something about this doesn't sit very well in sigma's mind. a small, self-deprecating smile flits across his expression as he crosses his arms and leans against the doorframe. ]
I'm still learning how to do that. Work in a team. I don't want you to get hurt carelessly, though, even if it's for me.
[ he tilts his head to the side, eyeing the sword that keiichi carries. ]
Do you know how to use that?
no subject
Not... really?
[He unsheathes the sword just a bit, letting the steel meet the open air. He wonders if it might be upset with him.]
Goro's been helping me, but it's pretty difficult. People dedicate their whole life to this thing, so I can't say I'm shocked.
